Benchmarking Corporate Libraries: Resources and Staffing
Study Overview
As a corporate library it can be difficult to demonstrate and communicate value to an organization. This 47-slide presentation offers corporate libraries timely benchmarks on important issues and also reveals ways to successfully demonstrate and communicate value in an organization. Based on survey results, it includes statistics on overall library usage, including user base penetration rates, digitalization status, e-content traffic levels as well as staffing and budget levels.
Also featured are performance measurement factors used to assess the library, including the most effective measurement standard, success stories on how to best communicate value to the organization and lessons learned on moving forward. In addition, a matrix is included showing the profile of companies with the most IT staff to support the library. Variables about these companies are compared such as number of vendors, page views and user sessions; % of e-content available enterprise-wide and % of e-content housed internally.
Key Findings
Key findings from the presentation include that 14% of surveyed libraries are fully digital and that another one-third of respondents never intend to fully digitalize. Digital content does comprise a large segment of library budgets across the benchmark class, however. About 43% of the average budget goes to electronic content, while 31% goes to staff and another 15% goes to paper resources.
Key Metrics
The overall study metrics come from over 40 corporate libraries at leading companies across industries.
