54 Advocacy Leaders Share How Internal Collaboration Improves Advocacy Work
CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Nov. 25, 2020/PRNewswire/ -- As the patient becomes central to how biopharma organizes itself, coordinating the internal groups assigned to serve patients is critical to success.
In many organizations, the Advocacy Team leads, supports, or advises these efforts, but can face challenges when attempting to coordinate internally to achieve these goals. Because of this, creating and maintaining a patient-centric biopharmaceutical organization requires not just the influence of an Advocacy Team but the influence of all other parts of the organization.
Best Practices, LLC conducted this study to help companies create a shared road map to allow pharma Advocacy Team leaders to better serve Patient Advocacy Groups (PAGs). "Patient Advocacy Internal Collaboration to Raise Awareness, Guide Research, and Improve Access" examines how companies’ advocacy teams work to improve coordination efforts with internal groups such as Marketing, Medical Affairs, R&D, and Government Affairs.
The study found that despite a greater abundance of resources, advocacy teams in large companies do not have an easier time submitting proposals for partnerships with PAGs. In fact, a greater percentage of advocacy teams at large companies report the process as “very difficult” compared with those at small-to-mid-sized companies. This indicates the problem is not typically due to resourcing or staffing limitations.
Key topics covered in this report include:
- Mechanics of Partnerships with Patient Advocacy Groups
- R&D Partnerships with Patient Advocacy Groups
- Transforming Policy and Access with Patient Advocacy Groups
- Improving Health and Disease Awareness with Patient Advocacy Groups
- Leveraging Telehealth to Improve Patient Centricity
- Best Practices in Leveraging Internal Patient Advocacy Interactions
For this study, Best Practices, LLC engaged 54 leaders from 44 biopharma organizations via a benchmark survey; the data are segmented by mid vs. large pharma and reporting structure of patient advocacy team. Deep-dive interviews were conducted with selected study participants to provide further insights.
