DuPont began its six sigma journey in March of 1999 and has been cited by Mikel Harry and others for one of the most aggressive six sigma deployments among major corporations. In the beginning, the primary focus was on manufacturing improvement projects to deliver hard financial results using the Six Sigma Academy project definition of 4-6 months duration and delivering in the range of $250k per projects. With over 13,000 projects completed or in progress and over $1.8Bn (hard finally validated) annualized benefits achieved the application of Six Sigma has expanded to include Top Line Growth, Design for Six Sigma and now Corporate Process Management.
