The US Navy created the Best Manufacturing Practices Center of Excellence in the 1980s to promote sharing of best practices amongst its many suppliers. In collaboration with the Department of Commerce this organization has been validating and documenting best practices while sharing these in an open, web accessible data base which promotes lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. This presentation will acquaint attendees with the Best Manufacturing Practices Program and how organizations can gain access to the surveyed best practices. BMP presenters will provide examples of best practices and demonstrate the BMP system which can assist in generating ideas for initiatives and in developing contacts in other organizations.
