Based on a survey of eight leading pharmaceutical organizations, this 15-slide presentation examines how pharmaceutical companies manage unsolicited research grant requests from investigators. Key topic areas in this study include: research request channels, research approval processes, tracking research completion and milestone requirements for payment. Companies can use this information to evaluate their process for managing unsolicited research grant requests.

The study found that companies' research request approval process have varying levels of complexity. For example, some organizations have designated committees and processes for ranking and evaluating requests, while others operate under an ad-hoc or less-complex approval system.

Companies use an average of two separate requirements to track research completion: abstract reviews and
research reports. Additionally, 75% require some sort of collateral or research milestone before payment.
