Establish a dealer council to collect formal dealer feedback on a regular basis.
Ford has found that two major problems inherent in a communications systems
linking 4,000 dealers nationwide are 1) the risk of delivering communications
that are impersonal and 2) failing to identify and address dealers’ needs. To
combat these perils, the company has created a “dealer council” to establish
formal channels for dealers to communicate their concerns and opinions to
corporate leaders.

Each of the seventeen regional dealer offices sends at least one, and sometimes
two, representatives to council meetings, which convene twice a year. At these
meetings, dealer representatives identify the top fifteen issues that they want
Ford communicators to address. Dealer personnel then meet with Ford
representatives to find solutions for each issue ...
