Xerox has changed its traditional compensation system to better align employees
motivation with the companies strategic goals. Managers are compensated based
on their performance against corporate objectives, which include measurable
factors such as financial performance, market share, customer satisfaction and
employee satisfaction. Additionally, managers are compensated based on
performance against personal objectives, which are designed to advance the
individual’s career and skills.

If an individual performs well but the company doesn't, the individual bonus
will not be great. One result of this system is that the variability of
bonuses has gone way up; bonuses have been as low as 35% of target and as high
