Mr. Morland will describe the informal and comparatively low-tech approaches NCR has used to complement its formal high-tech KM initiatives. He will define a general "interpersonal knowledge sharing model" and distinguish it from the "information processing model," which has dominated KM thinking to date. Mr. Morland will present scenarios illustrating the use of both models and will share his experience monitoring and participating in many of the more than 500 discussion lists that currently link over 11,000 NCR associates worldwide. He will present statistics and anecdotal evidence illustrating both success and failure in global communities of discourse. He will also provide a matrix that compares the cost, power, and efficacy of the interpersonal and information processing models.
