Best Practices, LLC initiated this benchmarking study to uncover how pharmaceutical companies develop and use formal training programs to help Key Opinion Leader speakers better communicate basic science, clinical data and practical experiences among their peer groups. Twelve pharmaceutical companies were selected to make up the benchmark class. Benchmark findings suggest that best-in-class companies manage speaker development as an integrated process, not as episodic events. In order for training programs to achieve maximum business results, other building blocks of speaker management systems need to be formalized and aligned as well. This 12-page document covers the upstream and downstream activities that affect the planning, implementation and impact of speaker training programs and events. Specifically, it focuses on three critical management areas including: Identifying and Selecting Potential Speakers for Training; Optimizing the Use of Trained Speakers; and Measuring and Managing Speaker Performance.
