Benchmarking is not a luxury; it's an activity that is useful in all economic climates. This 36-page report presents an analysis of a 2002 survey of 30 companies and in-depth interviews with seven of these companies on how companies are using benchmarking in a difficult economy. Topics discussed include which topics companies are choosing to benchmark, the goals of these benchmarking studies, how companies are demonstrating value through these studies, the criteria they use to show relevance and value and companies' lessons learned. These questions are answered through fifteen manager narratives, ten data and nine data graphics that display fifty-six metrics, such as the types of benchmarking projects that companies are engaging in by percentage. These results were created from a research project of the Best Practices LLC's Research and Adviosry Services.
